What is a Land Use Plan?
A Land Use Plan is a tool used for guiding the growth, redevelopment, and overall improvement of a city, town, or county. The plan will serve as the official statement by the Town of Farmville of its vision, intentions, goals, objectives, and strategies for future land use development. This plan will function as the Town's Comprehensive Plan. Topics that will be covered typically include: housing, transportation, parks and natural resources, utilities and public services, design of the public realm, and Downtown Farmville. The final plan will influence future Town policies and decisions, including future rezonings and development design.
The last Land Use Plan Update was completed in 2006. This previous plan, along with other plans produced by the Town of Farmville and Pitt County will be used as reference material during the planning process.
A Comprehensive Plan is developed in three overlapping phases: initiation & analysis; visioning & development, and implementation & adoption. Engaging with the community is woven into all three phases of this process. This is vital to the success and longevity of the plan: the more participation from Farmville residents and businesses, the greater the ability of this Plan to serve the Town. The projected completion date for this plan is April 2022.
